100 troy once coin

Anyone know where I can find info about a SAE 100 troy coin? I tried google but more garbage than useful info.

There are no official 100 oz ASEs from the US mint. they are all 1oz

The largest government mint coins i know of are the Australian kookaburra, Koala and lunars, i believe they make kilo and 10 kilo coins

I had in my hands a 1997 100 troy once coin what appeared to be a SAE (running liberty on the front and a eagle on the back). Is this something other than a US government coin?

That is very interesting. That is the first time that I have heard of a 100 troy oz coin. It was more than likely a round that was minted by a private mint.

There are several of the private mints which made these over the years, could be from the Washington Mint, I don't recall seeing any though over 25 ounces myself.

Don't tell me, you are going to put it on a gold chain and hang it around your neck...? :452:

Ten kilos would be 321.5 troy oz or about 22 lbs. That would be quite a remarkable coin!

Man I like the way you think! The Flava Flave 80's look, it's got to be making a come back!

On the back of the coin I remember a w on top of a m, could be washington mint.

Re: 100 troy once coin

Of course they're not govt. issued. There are several "private mint" lookalikes anywhere from 1 oz to one troy pound (12 troy ounces) plus a few that are a little heavier, but frankly no one gives a hoot about them.

I have never seen or even heard of a 100 oz private mint coin. It would cost WAY too much for a private company to produce the dies and have the equipment for the actual striking of the blank.

Then I'm going to guess that they are sand cast replicas. Good luck!

Why are you so down on these coins, it is a proof quality coin and the size of a personal pan pizza!

It looks just like this but only a 1997 date and has MW on the back, no front makings.

I was refering to the 100oz replicas, not the others. I have a bunch of the half pound (6 oz) replicas in stock that are struck and proof finish.

That would be a seven pound "pizza pie"

Why the US mint never got into making bigger peices I will never know

But the Perth dominates the iregular size market.

I would Kill to see a Kilo size SAE.

I spent 2 hours Internet searching and found zero 100 oz silver rounds even mentioned...I believe you held one, maybe a mint name?

The coin has W over M on the back, someone mentioned the Washington Mint. I looked there and found nothing.

Somewhat related, if I remember correctly in one of the coin publications recently they had mentioned that the US Mint was either considering or going to produce I think a 3 (or 2) oz silver coin. Sorry can't remember all the details.

Maybe it was grams instead of troy ounces?

I found a listing for 1000-gram american eagle, which comes out to just over 32 troy ounces.

Just a little pricey for me.

Yikes US $5,500.00, I guess it's a little pricey!
